Cottage Garden Planting
The lady of the house had a large village garden, part of which was a difficult border where mainly old shrubs and beech saplings grew. She loved cottage garden planting, which would suit the site and gave me a list of some of the plants she wanted to have. The elderly shrubs were cleared, roots and stones dug out, and the soil improved with local farmyard manure and when that had fully settled, a classic deep cottage garden border was planted.
